SCHOOL BUILDING -- Ryukyuan and American officials inspect a classroom of the Hiyajo Primary School on Kumejima during a visit to survey typhoon damage, Sept. 25.


HIGH COMMISIONER F. T. Unger Sept. 26 issued a declaration making available $200,000 for the relief of Ryukyuan victims of Typhoon Della which struck various parts of the Ryukyus from Sept. 21 to 23. The High Commissioner on Sept. 24 visited Tonaki and Aguni islands and on Sept. 25 he and Government of the Ryukyu Islands’ (GRI) chief Executive Seiho Matsuoka toured Miyako and Kume islands for first-hand inspections and discussions with victims of the typhoon. Teams of U.S. Civil Administration and GRI officials conducted inspections in Miyako on Sept. 24. Typhoon Della carved a destructive swath across the Ryukyus, killing five persons and injuring nine. Hundreds of dwellings and other structures were destroyed or damaged.

校舎－9月25日、台風被害の調査のため久米島の比屋定小学校の教室を視察する琉球とアメリカの関係者たち。


9月26日、F. T. アンガー高等弁務官は、9月21日から23日にかけ琉球列島各地を襲った台風デラの被災者救済のために20万ドルを提供すると宣言。高等弁務官は9月24日に渡名喜島と粟国島を訪問し、25日には琉球政府（GRI）の松岡政保行政主席とともに宮古島と久米島を訪れ被災地を直接視察、また被災者から話を聞いた。9月24日には米国民政府と琉球政府の職員による視察が宮古島で行われた。台風デラは列島中に甚大な被害を残し、5人が死亡、9人が負傷、数百棟の住宅や建造物が倒壊または破損した。
