William T. Burke, Chief Political Civil Affairs Section of the U.S. Element of the Reversion Preparatory Commission, received a certificate of commendation from High Commissioner James B. Lampert on Jan. 13. Mr. Burke was commended for outstanding performance of duty from March 1969 to January 1972. The citation said, "Mr. Burke made important contributions to the missions of the High Commissioner and Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands during a particularly sensitive and difficult period ... first as Consultant on Economic Matters to the Advisory Committee to the High Commissioner, followed with such concurrent assignments as Economic Advisor to the U.S. Element of the Reversion Preparatory Commission, as Reemployment Coordinator to the High Commissioner, and then as Liaison Representative on reversion matters. In all of these roles he demonstrated great energy, dedication and professional skill in the development and implementation of programs across a wide spectrum of economic, labor, and reversion connected activity." Mr. Burke and his family will return to the United States this month upon completion of his duty here.

琉球列島米国民政府ジェームズ・B・ランパート高等弁務官から1月13日、表彰状を受け取る復帰準備委員会政治・民事課主任ウィリアム・T・バーク氏。1969年3月から1972年1月までの期間の功績が評価された。「繊細で困難な時期に琉球列島の高等弁務官と米国民政府の任務に多大に貢献した。当初は高等弁務官への諮問委員会の経済コンサルタントとして、続いて復帰準備委員会 (米国側代表) の経済顧問、再雇用調整官を担当し、復帰問題代表団の渉外官をつとめた。これらの役割すべてにおいて同氏は、経済、労働、復帰に関連した広範囲の事業の開発と実施において、熱意とエネルギーで貢献し、専門的能力を発揮した」と称えた。バーク氏は任務完了後、家族と共に今月米国に帰国する。
