Army Specialist 6th Class James E. Swaim (2d from L), 5th Ordnance Detachment, receives a letter of appreciation Dec. 13 from Chief of Police Shukuju Shingaki (2d from R), Government of the Ryukyu Islands' police headquarters, for "contributing tremendously toward the prevention of accidents and protection of lives of the Ryukyuan people by working closely with the GRI Police Department in highly efficient and expedient efforts in eliminating World War II shells in extremely corroded and dangerous conditions." The presentation was made on behalf of the GRI Police Dept. Director Chokei Kochi. Shown in the photo are, L-R: Capt. Ellworth F. J.
