Mayor Toshio Chibana (R) of Kita Daito, an isolated island group located some 250 miles east of Okinawa Island, is shown presenting to Deputy Civil Administrator Edward E. Bennett a certificate of appreciation addressed to High Commissioner James B. Lampert for the U.S. Forces aircraft evacuation of patients to Okinawa. The mayor's certificate read "you have extended your immediate, merciful help each time we made our request in order to save the precious lives of my people. Therefore, all the villagers of this municipality heartily appreciate you for your warm, favorable consideration." Since Jan. 1, 1970, 53 patients have been flown on U.S. aircraft from remote areas of the Ryukyus to Okinawa for emergency medical treatment - four of the patients were from the Minami and Kita Daito area during the period of Dec. 19 to 22. 【和訳】 急患の空輸に感謝 北大東村の知花俊夫村長(右)が、米軍機の急患空輸活動に対しジェームス・B・ランパート高等弁務官宛の感謝状をエドワード・E・ベネット副民政官に手渡しているところ。知花村長は感謝状の中で「北大東村は沖縄本島から遠隔の離島で、医療設備も不完全のため、急患がある毎に度々空輸をお願いしましたところ、早急敏速に御自愛ある御配慮を賜わり、生命の危険を御援助していただいたことは住民一同心から感謝感激いたしている次第であります。」と述べた。米軍機は1970年1月1日以来、これまで離島や僻地の急患53人を沖縄に空輸した。また、12月19日、20日と22日の3日間で4人の患者が南大東と北大東から空輸された。 【分類】Awards / 賞
