Colonel George W. Coffman, commanding officer and provost marshal of the U.S. Army Military Police Group, (left) is presented with a letter of appreciation and appointed as an honorary senior police superintendent of the Police Department of the Government of the Ryukyu Islands by Director Yukio Yogi (right). The "Letter of Appreciation and Appointment" was presented on Oct. 3 for Coffman's numerous contributions to the preservation of law and order and for bettering relationships and understanding between the American and Ryukyuan people during his two-year assignment here. He is soon leaving Okinawa for a new assignment in the United States. At center is Mr. Harriman N. Simmons, director of the Public Safety Dept., Office of the High Commissioner.

琉球政府警察局長の与儀幸雄氏 (右) から感謝状と名誉警視正の称号を贈られる司令官及び米陸軍憲兵隊長ジョージ・W・コフマン大佐 (左) 。2年の在任中、法と秩序の維持と米琉相互の親善と理解のために尽力したとして「感謝と任命状」が10月3日に贈られた。同氏は間もなく沖縄を離れ、米国で新しい任務に就く。中央は高等弁務官事務所公安局のハリマン・N・シモンズ局長。
