Walker (2nd from L), EOD supervisor, 5th Ordnance Detachment, and Sp4 Lawrence G. Strish (2nd from R), EOD specialist, 196th Ordnance Detachment, both of the 196th Ordnance Battalion, 2nd Logistical Command, U.S. Army Ryukyu Islands. With them at the Police Hq. on Jan. 27 are Capt. Roland P. Thompson (C), commanding officer, 5th OD.; and 2nd Lt. Paul S. Halkovich (R), EOD officer, 196th OD. Shown are (L-R) Capt. Thompson, SGM Walker, Mr. Arakaki, Sp4 Strish, and 2nd Lt. Halkovich. SGM Walker and Sp4 Strish were thanked for their contribution toward "the prevention of accidents and protection of lives of the Ryukyuan people" in disposing World War II shells under dangerous conditions.
【和訳】 琉球政府新垣徳助警本部長は在沖米陸軍第二兵站部隊第196オーデナンス大隊の第5オーデナンス分遣隊マーベン・H・オーカー特務曹長と同第196分遣隊ローレンス・G・ストリッシュ特技伍長に感謝状を手渡した。1月27日、警本での感謝状贈呈式で一緒にいるのは第5分遣隊長ロナルド・P・トンプソン大尉と第196分遣隊のポール・S・ハルコビッチ少尉。オーカー特務曹長とストリッシュ特技伍長の二人は、琉球住民の事故防止と生命保護のため、第二次大戦時の古い不発弾処理の面での功労に対して感謝状が贈られたもの。
