Alphonse F. La Porta of the United States Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia, was presented a framed letter of appreciation from President Hikosho Nagamine of the Ryukyu Deep Sea Tuna Fisheries Association at the latter's office in Naha, Feb. 1. Mr. La Porta was cited for his "efforts and cooperation" for the early release of the two Ryukyuan fishing boats which had been detained at Ambon by Indonesian naval authorities last summer. Mr. La Porta arrived in Okinawa Jan. 28 for a five-day fact-finding visit during which he met officials of USCAR and the Government of the Ryukyu Islands, and leaders of the Ryukyuan fishing industry.

琉球遠洋鮪業協会長嶺彦昌会長から2月1日に感謝状を贈られるインドネシアのジャカルタ在の米国大使館アルフォンス・F・ラポータ氏。感謝状は、去年の夏インドネシア海軍当局によってアンボンで拘留された琉球漁船二隻の早期釈放に「努力及び協力」したラポータ氏の労に対して贈られたもの。同氏は1月28日に来島、5日間の実情調査の期間中、米民政府、琉球政府、琉球水産界の関係者と面会した。
