FIRST CAMERA ASSEMBLY
A local camera company, operating in the Naha Free Trade Zone, has recently signed a contract with a French firm for its product and is pushing plans to double its production and numbers of employees. When the company began operation here in mid-June, 1961, it was the first time that the Ryukyu Islands had been involved in the production of cameras. The company imports all parts for its product from Japan and assembles them into complete units and sells them to U.S. Post Exchange facilities in the Ryukyus. Shown in the picture are (L-R): Hideo Yoshizawa, Japanese technician, (left corner) and the Ryukyuan employees are assembling the cameras.

初のカメラ組立
沖縄自由貿易区内での営業中の地元カメラ会社がフランスの企業と製品の契約を結び、生産量と従業員数を倍増する計画を推し進めている。1961年6月中旬に操業を開始し、琉球でカメラが製造されるのは初めて。同社は製品の部品すべてを日本から輸入し、完成品に組み立て、琉球の米軍施設内の売店 (PX) で販売している。写真は日本人技術者のヨシザワ・ヒデオ氏 (左隅) と琉球の従業員がカメラを組み立てているところ。
