BUY RYUKYUAN PRODUCTS CAMPAIGN - Civil Administrator Robert A. Fearey, in opening the annual 'Buy Ryukyuan Products Campaign' on Oct. 11, praised the Ryukyu Industrial Federation (RIF) for its continuing efforts to make the Ryukyu Islands self-sufficient in the production of many basic products. The Civil Administrator participated in the opening ceremony of the two-week campaign held at the Orion Hall in Naha, with Chief Executive Chobyo Yara of the Government of the Ryukyu Islands (GRI) and RIF President Mutsuo Nakada, sponsors of the campaign. Mr. Fearey said The RIF can be proud of the growing volume of locally-manufactured products turned out in recent years. The $56 million worth of goods produced in FY 1968 constituted a six-fold increase over FY 1958. He added, "Continued efforts to promote Ryukyuan products, plus continued alertness for new products and a through examination of ways to induce new capital to help create them, will eventually lead to the goal of a halanced trade account.

10月11日に行われた毎年恒例の「島産品愛用運動」のオープニング式典で、多くの基本製品を自給自足で生産している継続的な努力に対し、ロバート・A・フィアリー民政官が琉球工業連合会を称賛した。フィアリー民政官は那覇市のオリオンホールで2週間開催されるキャンペーンの開会式で、主催者の琉球政府屋良朝苗行政主席、琉球工業連合会仲田睦男会長と共に出席。同民政官は「琉球工業連合会はここ近年、地元で生産された製品の生産量が増えていることを誇りに思うだろう。1968年に生産された5,600万ドル相当の商品は、1958年度に比べ6倍に増加している」とし、「琉球物産品の普及努力を続け、かつ新製品について研究、それを生み出すための新しい資本の導入を徹底的に検討していくことが、最終的にバランスの取れた貿易収支の目標につながるだろう」と述べた。
