NEW TOURIST HOTEL - Deputy Civil Administrator M. D. Roush, representing High Commissioner James B. Lampert, speaks at a ground-breaking ceremony of the Shuri Kanko Hotel in Naha, Sept. 18. The Deputy Civil Administrator congratulated Mr. Kamakichi Oshiro and his associates on the construction of the largest tourist hotel complex to date in Okinawa - a 20-story, 312-room hotel. A substantial long-term, low-interest loan was granted for the joint venture by Okinawan business and the Japan Air Lines Development Company by the Ryukyu Development Loan Corporation (RDLC), with the full support of the U.S. Civil Administration. According to recent statistics, visitors to the Ryukyus in the past year numbered 188,000, representing a 14 percent increase over the preceding year. Expenditures by these visitors were estimated at about $37 million, also a 14 percent increase. On a per capita basis, it is estimated each tourist spent $196 during an average five-day stay on Okinawa.

ジェームズ・B・ランパート高等弁務官に代わりM・D・ルーシュ副民政官が9月18日、那覇市首里の観光ホテルの起工式に出席した。民政官は大城鎌吉氏と関係者による沖縄で最大規模の観光複合施設 (20階建てホテル、部屋数312) の建設を歓迎。琉球列島米国民政府からの全面的な支援を受け、琉球開発金融公社は沖縄経済と日本航空開発会社の合弁事業に対して実質的な長期低金利ローンを認めている。最近の統計では、過去1年間の琉球への渡航者は188,000人で前年に比べ14%増加した。渡航者による収入は約3,700万ドルと見積もられ14%の増加、渡航者1人あたりでは沖縄での平均滞在日数は5日、支出は196ドルと推定される。
