ISAHAMA SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT, the second such major treatment facility on Okinawa, was formally dedicated on July 6 to service more than 200,000 persons living in the area between Yomitan, Koza, and Urasoe. The plant was designed by the U.S. Amy Engineer District, Okinawa and constructed under its supervision at a total cost of about $2 million provided by the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR). Civil Administrator Robert A. Fearey, in a statement read at the ceremony, said :,The basic purpose of sewage treatment is of course to protect public health. Beyond that, as the world is coming more and more to realize, such systems are essential to the control of environmental pollution. The plant, which is located on 12 acres of reclaimed land (15,000 tsubos) west of Isahama and south of the U.S. Army Hamby Airfield, will provide primary sewage treatment for waterborne sewage and night soil.

伊佐浜下水処理場
読谷、コザ、浦添間の20万人以上を対象とした沖縄第2の主要施設となる伊佐浜下水処理場が7月6日に落成式を迎えた。在沖米陸軍工兵隊によって設計監理され、費用総額200万ドルは米民政府提供によるもの。ロバート・A・フィアリー民政官は式典のスピーチで、「下水処理の基本目的は公衆衛生を守る事であり、それ以上にこのようなシステムは環境汚染の制御に不可欠である」と述べた。伊佐浜の西12エーカーの埋め立て地 (15,000坪) にあり、米陸軍ハンビー飛行場の南に位置する処理場は、水性下水汚物や屎尿の一次処理を行う。
