MASTER CAPTION
APPRENTICESHIP TRAINING - 66 apprentices are receiving two to three years, of training with the U.S. Army, Ryukyu Islands (USARYIS) for hard-to-fill journeymen positions in the Ryukyus. The local apprenticeship program, conducted in accordance with United States Department of Labor standards, is being carried out at USARYIS installations, administered by the USARYIS Civilian Personnel Office and funded by the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus. Since the program began in Okinawa in 1962, 55 Okinawans have become full-fledged journeymen in their fields of work. The apprentices ere receiving training as auto mechanics, machinists, electricians, sheet metal welders, fabric workers, cable splicers, marine carpenters, and repairmen in the fields of powered equipment, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, and medical equipment.

琉球で少ない技術職を育成するための二年から三年にわたる研修を、在沖米陸軍で66名の琉球人見習工が受けている。これは米労働省の労働基準にそって、在沖米陸軍施設で実施されており、在沖米陸軍人事部が管理し、米民政府から資金が出されている。1962年、沖縄で同計画が実施されて以来、55名が各分野で熟練工となっている。自動車修理、機械、電気、動力機械修理、板金溶接、布地修理、配線、冷凍、エアコン修理、エンジン修理、暖房機修理、船大工、医療機械修理等を見習工がそれぞれの分野で学んでいる。
