Col. Bernie D. Johnson (L), commanding officer, U.S. Army transportation Group (USATG), presents a truck-load of brass stock material for the Okinawa Technical High School, on behalf of High Commissioner Paul W. Caraway, at the school in Naha, July 14. Receiving the material for the school are Mr. Yukichi Shiroma (R) assistant principal, and Tetsuo Tomida, 1st grade student, as Mr. Gitoku Arakaki (C), deputy mayor of Naha City; Mr. Theodore A. Colby, technical advisor, USATG; and students look on. Most of the material was purchased by funds from the US Army's Okinawa Recreation and Welfare Association, with some contributed by the USATG. The High Commissioner has initiated a program with the Okinawa Technical High School to build miniature howitzers in the metal and mechanical shop of the school for broadening the students' capabilities in the training phase of the workshops. A model howitzer has been built by the students with material furnished by USARYIS and members of the USATG.

バーニー・D・ジョンソン大佐 (左、在琉米陸軍輸送部隊司令官) は7月14日、ポール・W・キャラウェイ高等弁務官を代表して、那覇市の沖縄工業高校にトラックに積載された真鍮資材の在庫が贈呈された。学校への資材を受け取ったのは、城間勇吉教頭 (右) と同校1年の富田哲夫さん、出席しているのは新垣義徳那覇市助役 (中央)、セオドア・A・コルビー氏 (在琉米陸軍輸送部隊技術顧問)及び同校の生徒。材料の大半は沖縄娯楽福祉協会の資金で購入、残りは在琉米陸軍輸送部隊から寄贈されたもの。高等弁務官は同校の工作場での訓練を通して生徒の能力を伸ばすためにホウイツア砲の模型を作る計画を推進した。ホウイツア砲の模型は、在琉米陸軍司令部及び在琉米陸軍輸送部隊から供給された資材で同校生徒によってつくられた。
