Mrs. Aubrey Hampton, great grand-daughter of the Rev. Bernard Jean Bettelheim, Okinawa missionary, doctor, and linguist in the mid-1800's visits Bettelheim's Monument (back) at the Gokokuji Temple in Naminoue, Naha, April 11, with Dr. Yoshihiko Teruya (C), University of the Ryukyus' assistant professor of history, and Choshin Kabira, member of the Okinawa Cultural Properties Protection Commission. During her two-day stay in Okinawa, Mrs. Hampton also attended lectures given at the Episcopal Church in Mihara by Dr. Teruya and Mr. Kabira in commemoration of the centenary of Bettelheim's death. 【和訳】 ベッテルハイム記念碑を訪れる 19世紀の中頃来島して住民に親しまれていたバーナード・ジーン・ベッテルハイム博士(宣教師で医者で言語学者)の曾孫にあたるアウベイ・ハンプトン夫人は4月11日、波の上護国寺にあるベッテルハイム記念碑(写真後方)を訪れ、曾祖父の業績をしのんだ。傍で説明をしているのは、琉大史学科の照屋善彦助教授(中央)と文化財保護委員会の川平朝申委員。同夫人は2日間の滞在中に、ベッテルハイム博士の100年忌を記念して三原の沖縄聖公会で行われた照屋助教授と川平氏の特別公演にも出席した。 【分類】Ryukyuan-American Friendship / 琉米親善
