Col. Hugh F. Richardson, Deputy Civil Administrator, presented a copy of the book, "The Voyage of the Alceste," to Capt. Hugh A, Corbett, skipper of the British Royal Navy's HMB Fearless, during the captain's courtesy call on the U.S. Civil Administration on April 1. The book, written by John McLeod, recounts the adventures of the British sailing vessel on an 1816 voyage to the Far East, including the Ryukyu Islands. The foreword to the book was written by Shannon McCune, former U.S. Civil Administrator. The HMS Fearless remained in the Ryukyus through. April 4 and during its stay held an open house of the ship while its crew entertained the local people with band concerts and a soccer game.
