Approximately 150 Ryukyuan-American singers are rehearsing Handel's "Messiah" at the Naha Ryukyuan-American Cultural Center in Yogi, Naha. The chorus consists of singers from the Naha Philharmonic Chorus, Military Chapel choirs, the Ishikawa Philharmonic Chorus, and other singers who will present a series of Messiah concerts during the coming Christmas season under the sponsorship of the Cultural Affairs Div., Office of Public Affairs, Office of the High Commissioner. Conducting this grand chorus is Mr. Shinsho Miyazato (L, rear), conductor of the Naha Philharmonic Chorus; pianist is Mrs. Samuel H. Kitamura, accompanist for the chorus. Sitting near the exit (background) is Mrs. Kimiko Taira, one of five soloists for the concerts. The final dress rehearsal open to the public will be held at the Koza USO at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 9. The formal concerts will be held at the Fort Buckner Theatre in Sukiran at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13 and at the field house of the University of the Ryukyus at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 14.

約150人の琉米歌手が、那覇市与儀にある那覇琉米文化会館でヘンデルの「メサイア」のリハーサルを行った。コーラスは、那覇混声合唱団、ミリタリーチャペル合唱団、石川混声合唱団の歌手と、高等弁務官室広報局文化課の後援の下、来るクリスマスシーズンに一連のメサイアコンサートを行う他の歌手で構成されている。この壮大なコーラスを指揮するのは、那覇混声合唱団の指揮者、宮里進正氏 (左、後部)。ピアニストはサミュエル・H・北村夫人で、コーラスの伴奏者 (出口の近くに座っている、背景)は、コンサートのための5人のソリストの一人であるタイラ・キミコ夫人。最後のドレスリハーサルは、12月9日(月)午後7時30分にコザ米国慰問協会で行われる。正式なコンサートは、12月13日(金)午後7時30分に瑞慶覧のフォートバクナー劇場、12月14日(土)午後7時30分に琉球大学体育館で開催される。
