Mrs. James B. Lampert, wife of the High Commissioner, visited the Naha School Lunch Food Processing Center in Aja, Naha, and the Union Bakery in Ganeko, Ginowan on May 27 as part of her familiarization tours of local medical, welfare and educational institutions. Mrs. Lampert was accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. Hester L. Hill; Dr. Gordon Warner, Food For Peace officer, Health, Education and Welfare Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus; Iko Onaga, chief, Health and Physical Education Section, Education Dept., Government of the Ryukyu Islands; and Seiki Shimabukuro, chairman, board of directors of the Ryukyu School Lunch Society. The food center prepares lunches for 11,084 pupils at five elementary and for 7,552 at seven junior high schools in the Naha area. The bakery bakes bread for 20,921 pupils at elementary and 8,071 at junior high schools in the school districts of Nakagusuku, Kitanakagusuku, Naha and Haebaru. The U. S. donates food commodities for the lunches of 241,000 Okinawan school children daily.

ジェームス・B・ランパート高等弁務官夫人は5月27日、沖縄の医療・福祉・教育施設訪問の一環として安謝にある那覇学校給食センターと我如古にあるユニオンベーカリーを訪問した。ランパート夫人の訪問には令嬢のヘスター・L・ヒル夫人、琉球列島米国民政府平和のための食料計画担当官ゴードンワーナー博士 、琉球政府保健体育課の尾長維行課長 、琉球学校給食会の島袋盛輝理事長が同行した。那覇学校給食センターは那覇地域の小学生11,084人および中学生7,552人分の食事をまかなっている。ユニオンベーカリーは中城・北中城・那覇および南風原地域の小学生20,921人および中学生8,071人分の給食用パンを供給。米国は沖縄の児童241,000人のために学校給食用食糧を援助している。
