The USCAR Women's Club sponsored a sale of products, made by the Lighthouse for the Blind, in the lobby of the Executive building, Government Plaza, on Friday, May 24. On sale were plastic items, fuzzy toys, rag rugs and other items, all made by the blind. Shown left to right are Shinichi Yamashiro, vice-president of the Okinawa Blind Association; Mrs. Russell Stevens, president of the USCAR Women's Club; Mrs. Williard Merchant, welfare committee member of the club; Mrs. Nobue Onaga, principal of the Onaga Practical Arts School; and Mrs. Homer Fleming, welfare committee member of the club. This project was the result of the efforts of many of the clubs' members. The club expects to continue sales once a month, dependent upon public response.
【和訳】 視覚障がい者のために
5月24日(金)、行政府ビルロビーにて米民政府婦人クラブ後援によるライトハウス (視覚障がい者更生施設)の作品展示販売を行った。販売されたのはプラスチック製品、玩具、ラグマットやその他の製品は、すべて視覚障がい者によって製作された。左から、沖縄盲人協会副会の山城真一会長、米民政府婦人クラブのラッセル・スティーブンス会長、同クラブ福祉委員のウィラード・マーチャント夫人、翁長技芸学院の翁長信枝院長、同クラブ福祉委員のホーマー・フレミング夫人。この企画は多くのクラブ会員の努力の成果である。クラブは今後一般の反応に応じて、月に一度販売を継続する予定。
