Civil Administrator Gerald Warner (R) signed the annual U.S. economic aid agreement for Fiscal Year 1964 with Government of the Ryukyu Islands Chief Executive Seisaku Ota on Feb. 18, 1964. The agreement amounts to 65.2 million in ARIA (Administration, Ryukyu Islands, Army) cash funds appropriated by the U.S. Congress for GRI programs in the fields of education, public works, health and safety, and cultural activities. This amount is a part of the overall U.S. direct financial assistance of $13.7 million which is being provided by the United States for the benefit of the Ryukyuan economy in Fiscal Year 1964. The largest single U.S. contribution includes $2 million in ARIA funds and $2.5 million from the High Commissioner's General Fund to be given to the Ryukyu Domestic Water Corporation for this year's projects in its long-range program to utilize all available water resources on Okinawa.
