Judge Russell L. Stevens (L), director, Judicial Department, U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands (USCAR), received a certificate of appreciation from Judge Keiso Nakamatsu (R), chief justice, Government of the Ryukyu Islands (GRl) Court of Appeals, at a farewell party sponsored by the GRI Judiciary Branch at the Harborview Club on March 16. Judge Stevens was cited for his contributions to the GRI judicial administration and legal structure of the Ryukyus. Judge Stevens was instrumental in instituting the jury system for trials of cases in the USCAR courts and materially contributed to the streamlining of the judicial administration in the GRI. Judge and Mrs. Stevens are scheduled to depart Okinawa on March 31 for a new assignment in Seattle, Washington, where he will be the regional counsel for the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. His area of responsibility will range from Alaska to the island of Samoa, and the West Coast states of the United States to Guam.

ハーバービュークラブで3月16日に行われた琉球政府司法部門主催による送別会で、琉球上訴裁判所首席判事の仲松恵爽氏 (右) から感謝状を贈られる米国民政府法務局長ラッセル・L・スティーブンス判事 (左) 。琉球政府司法部と琉球の法体系への功績が評価されたもの。米民政府裁判所における審理ための陪審制度の制定と琉球政府の司法行政の合理化に著しく貢献したと称えられた。スティーブンス夫妻は米国ワシントン州シアトルの米国商務省経済開発局地域顧問としての新しい任務のため、3月31日に沖縄を発つ予定。新しい任務で担当する地域は、アラスカからサモア諸島、米国の西海岸の州からグアムまでの範囲に及ぶ。
