Mrs. Haruko H. Kaneshiro (2nd from L), member of the Hawaii friendship mission to the Ryukyus, presents a gift of Hawaiian anthurium tropical flowers to Civil Administrator Robert A. Fearey (2nd from R), during the mission's courtesy call at USCAR, May 27. Other members of the group are (L-R) Bruce Noboru Takamine, president, Hui Hanalike, Hilo; Akira Sakima, Hawaii state representative, and leader of the group; and Samuel Yasujiro Takushi, vice president, American Security Bank, Honolulu. Mrs. Kaneshiro is chairman of the Hui Makaala Women's Group. All are Americans of Okinawan ancestry. They are visiting Okinawa for a 10-day tour under the sponsorship of Headquarters, U.S. Army, Pacific with the cooperation of the U.S. Army, Ryukyu Islands, to further the mutual understanding and friendship between Hawaii and the Ryukyus. During their stay on Okinawa, the group will meet Ryukyuan and American leaders and visit educational institutions and places of industrial, cultural and historical interest on Okinawa, Miyako and Yaeyama islands

米民政府を5月27日に訪問、ロバート・A・フィアリー民政官(右から2番目)にハワイのアンスリウムの花を贈る来島中のハワイ新聞使節団のハルコ・H・兼城夫人(左から2番目)。他の使節団のメンバーは(左から)ブルース・ノボル・高嶺氏(ヒロのフイ・ハナリケ協会々長)、アキラ・崎間・ハワイ州議員(同使節団の団長)及びサミュエル・ヤスジロ・沢岻氏(ホノルル在、アメリカン・セキュリティ銀行副頭取)、兼城夫人はフイ・マカアラ婦人クラブ会長。全員とも沖縄系の米人である。一行は太平洋方面米陸軍司令部後援、在琉米陸軍司令部の協力で10日間の日程で来島、ハワイ、沖縄の相互理解を増進し、親善を深めるためのもの。滞在中、一行は琉米関係者と会い、又沖縄、宮古、八重山の教育、文化及び、産業施設、史跡等を訪れる。
