Civil Administrator Robert A. Fearey (C) inspects the Okinawa Plywood Corporation (OPC), Sept. 24. Explaining the operation of the factory are President Harley S. Tawlks (L) and Vice President Michael B. Muir. Accompanying the Civil Administrator are his sons Peter, 9, and Paul, 7. OPC was incorporated as a Ryukyuan corporation in 1959. Since then, production has more than doubled, from a monthly rate of two million square feet to the current rate of 4.5 million square feet. Markets for the plywood include local commercial sales and the U.S. military as well as Japan, Guam, Hong Kong, and the Trust Territories.
【和訳】 沖縄ベニヤ板工場視察
ロバート・A・フィアリー民政官 (中央) は9月24日、沖縄ベニヤ板工場を視察した。工場を運営しているのはハーレー・S・ラウルクス社長 (左) とマイケル・B・ミューア副社長。フィアリー民政官の息子ピーター君 (9歳) とパウロ (7歳) も同行した。沖縄ベニヤ板工場は1959年に琉球の法人として設立。以後、月間生産量は2,000,000平方フィートから現在の4,500,000万平方フィートまで2倍以上増加。ベニヤ板市場には、現地の商業販売や米軍のほか、日本、グアム、香港、信託統治などがある。
