Mrs. Harry W. Lombard (3rd from R), president, USCAR Women's Club, presents $490 worth of goods including clothing material, bookshelves, chopsticks with holders, coat hangers, a group listening system, curtain cloth, tray, rubber sole shoes, wash tubs, and other items, to representatives of the inmates at the Ryukyu Reformatory in Koza, May 12. Others at the ceremony are (L-R) Ansei Uchima, superintendent of the reformatory; Minoru Miyashiro, plans assistant, Public Safety Dept. (PS), U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR); Mrs. Harriman N. Simmons; and Mr. Simmons, director, PS, USCAR. "We have aided this institution for a number of years in order to help defray the cost in purchasing certain comfort and other items, vocational training, and recreational programs. We hope through this means to encourage young people in the reformatory," Mrs. Lombard said.
