U.S. Forces and Government of the Ryukyu Islands Police jointly announced an agreement on expanded police cooperation at a press conference held Aug. 24 at the USCAR conference room. Shown are (L-R) GRI Police Chief Tokusuke Arakaki; Harriman N. Simmons, Director, Public Safety Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus; and Col. Melford M. Wheatley, Provost Marshal of the Ryukyu Islands Armed forces Police. A nine-point basic program, including improved procedures for joint investigations, notifications, and public information dissemination concerning incidents involving military personnel and Ryukyuans, was announced by the three officials.
【和訳】 合同記者会見
琉球政府警察と憲兵隊の合同記者会見に於て、警察同士の協力の拡大に関する合意が交わされたことを、8月24日琉球列島米国民政府会議室にて発表した。左から、新垣徳助警察本部長、ハリマン・N・シモンズ氏 (琉球列島米国民政府公安局々長)及びメルフォード・M・ウィトリー大佐 (琉球列島憲兵隊憲兵隊長)。軍人と琉球人に関する事件に関する共同捜査、通報、情報公開の手続きの改善など、9点の基本プログラムが3名の幹部によって発表された。
