Receiving letters of appreciation from Government of the Ryukyu Police Chief Tokusuke Arakaki (2nd from R) are SP/5 John G. Nielsen (L) and S/Sgt. Dale E. Wilber (2nd from L) of the 5th Ordnance Detachment (EOD), 2nd Logistical Command, U.S. Army. Both servicemen were commended for meritorious services extended in the safe disposal of shells found in the Ryukyu Islands. The presentation was made at the GRI Police Headquarters on Dec. 3, attended by Lt. Jeno O. Hidvegi, commanding officer, and Sgt. Michael E. Roth, senior EOD supervisor. Following the ceremony, Lt. Jeno, representing the unit, presented a fund to the bereaved family of late GRI Police Sgt. Matsuzo Yamagawa, who was killed in a recent disturbance.
【和訳】 感謝状の贈呈
新垣徳助琉球警察本部長(右から2番目)から感謝状を受ける第5弾薬処理分遺隊のジョン・G・ニルソン特技兵(左)とディル・E・ウイルバー軍曹(左から2番目)。両軍層は琉球各地に散在する弾薬処理に貢献した事を讃えられ表彰されたものである。表彰式は12月3日、警察本部で行われ、分遺隊長のジェノ・O・ヒビギー中尉と上級弾薬処理監督官のマイケル・E・ロス曹長も出席した。表彰式のあと、ジェノ中尉から分遺隊を代表して、最近、騒動事件で殉職された故山川松三巡査部長の遺族に対し、見舞金が贈られた。
