The new Gushikawa fire station, located in the Tairagawa area within the compound of the municipal office grounds, was dedicated Thursday, Mar. 30. Built with the aid of an $8,850 grant from the High Commissioner's Special Fund and assistance from the 3rd Marine Division, the fire station will become an important link in the network of fire stations on Okinawa. The two-story, ferroconcrete structure with a tower (right) will house fire fighting equipment and serve an area populated by some 35,000 people and many surrounding villages and communities. Among the crowed, of well-wishers were many Ryukyuan and American officials and men and officers of the 3rd Marine Division.

3月30日木曜日、平良川地区の市役所敷地内に新たに消防署が開所された。高等弁務官特別基金からの8,850ドルの助成金と第3海兵師団からの援助で建てられ、同消防署は沖縄の消防署ネットワークの中で重要なつながりとなる。 塔(右)のある2階建ての鉄筋コンクリート造の建物には消火設備が設置され、約35,000人の人々と周囲の多くの村やコミュニティが住む地域に対応できる。 見送る大衆の中には、多くの琉球人とアメリカ人の役人、そして第3海兵師団の将校がいた。
