CUB SCOUTERS WORK FOR RELIEF OF TYPHOON VICTIMS
Some 60 members of the American Cub Scout Pack 101 launched a clothing, bedding and food collection drive on Oct. 2 in the Sada, Chatan, Futenma, Kishaba, Plaza and Camp Kue housing areas for the relief of the victims of Typhoon Bess, which struck Yaeyama Island Group on Sept. 21 and 22. The storm, one of the worst in recent times, left more than 2,000 persons homeless in Ishigaki, Iriomote, Taketomi, Kuroshima, Yonaguni and other offshore isles in the group. The relief goods collected were transported to the disaster area by a U.S. military LCM boat and will be distributed to the victims under the supervision of the Yaeyama Civil Affairs Team, USCAR. Similar drives are also under way at Kadena and Naha Air Bases and the Machinato-Naha housing area. These drives, when completed, are expected to satisfy the immediate needs of the typhoon victims.

カブスカウト隊員、台風被災者の救済に協力
アメリカのカブスカウト101部隊、約60人は、10月2日、サダ、北谷、普天間、喜舎場、プラザ、キャンプ桑江住宅地域で衣類、寝具、食糧の寄付運動を開始した。この運動は、9月21日、22日の両日、八重山諸島を襲った台風28号「ベス」の被災者を救済するために行なわれたものである。台風28号は近年で最も強烈な台風で、石垣島、西表島、竹富島、黒島、与那国島、その他離島で2,000人余が家屋を失くした。収集した救援物資は、米軍上陸用舟艇で被災地に送られ、八重山民政官府の監督の下で被災者に配布される。同じような運動が、嘉手納空軍基地と那覇空軍基地及び牧港那覇住宅地域で行われている。これ等の運動が完了すると、台風被災者の当座の必要を満たすことが出来るものと期待される。
