President Seitoku Shinzato is shown proudly holding a Rotary International charter which was presented by Rotary District 358 Governor Tsujihiko Haga at a ceremony held Feb. 16 at the Hong Kong Garden Restaurant. Civil Administrator Stanley S. Carpenter conveyed greetings from High Commissioner F. T. Unger and the Civil Administration and called the club a 'neighbor" since USCAR moved last month from Naha City to its new location in Urasoe-son. The club, as the eighth and newest of Rotary clubs within the Ryukyus, officially joined that world-wide body of public-spirited men united under Rotary's motto, ''Service Above Self." Since the first Rotary club was established in the Ryukyus in 1958, Rotary has become known for its assistance to students, sponsorship of youth groups, and for aid to the ill or needy.

2月16日、ホンコンガーデンレストランで行われた式典で、国際ロータリー第358地区ハガ・ツジヒコ・ガバナーから贈呈された国際ロータリーの加盟認証状を誇らしげに手にする新里清篤会長。また、スタンリー・S・カーペンター民政官によりF・T・アンガー高等弁務官からの挨拶が代読され、先月、米民政府が那覇市から浦添村に移転したことから、「隣人」と呼ばれていることを伝えた。このクラブは、琉球地区内で8番目に新しいロータリー・クラブとして、ロータリーのモットーである「超我の奉仕」の下で結ばれた世界的な公共の精神を持った人々の団体に正式に加盟した。1958年に琉球に最初のロータリー・クラブが設立されて以来、ロータリーは、学生への支援、青少年グループの後援、病人や生活困窮者への援助などで知られるようになった。
