American women's clubs on Okinawa presented scholarships to eight Ryukyuan high school students in a brief ceremony held at the Ishikawa Senior High School on July 10. This is part of a program to grant scholarships totaling $4,685 to 165 Ryukyuan students as a means of encouraging them to continue their education. Contributing scholarships were the Fort Buckner, USCAR, and Transportation Women's Clubs, and the Fort Buckner NCO, Kadena Officers, and Naha Officers Wives Clubs. Mrs. Joan Clark (2nd from L), welfare chairman, Transportation Women's Club, is shown presenting scholarships to four of the eight students; (L-R) Masao Tsuhako, Miss Takako Miyagi, Miss Etsuko Omine, and Miss Ruriko Nakasone, all of the Ginoza Senior High School.
