Miss Masako Akamine, who placed first, and Naoyasu Miyazato, third prize winner, were congratulated October 4 for their winning essays in the High Commissioner's Third Annual Essay Contest. Miss Setsuko Maeda, who placed second, was unable to attend the ceremony due to impossible roads in the Hentona area as a result of typhoon Tilda. The awards are for $150, $75, and $50, respectively, for four years at the University of the Ryukyus if the students maintain a B-grade average. The high Commissioner's Office is providing funds for the winning scholarship, and Naha Air Base is providing funds for second and third-place winners.

【和訳】 第三回高等弁務官エッセイ・コンテストに赤嶺政子(1位)、真栄田節子(2位)、宮里尚安(3位)が入賞、10月4日に表彰式が行われた。2位の真栄田さんは、台風テルダのため、道路が決壊、辺土名から出席することができなかった。
奨学資金は150ドル、75ドル、50ドルで、琉球大学での4年間成績Bの場合与えられる。高等弁務官から1位と2位に、3位は那覇航空隊から奨学資金が贈られる。今年度の論題は、「今日の琉球に於ける学生の役割」で21の論文が提出された。
