The Kadena Officers Wives Club (KOWC) on July 13 presented scholarships to eight Ryukyuan students in a brief ceremony held at the newly-opened Miyako Island Trade and Vocational Institute. This is part of a program of six American women's clubs to provide scholarships this year totaling $4,685 to 165 Ryukyuan senior high school students as a means of encouraging them to continue their education. Contributing the Scholarships are the Fort Buckner, USCAR, and Transportation Women's Clubs, and the Fort Buckner NCO, Kadena Officers, and Naha Officers Wives Clubs. Mr. Joan Hodges, 1st vice president, KOWC, is shown presenting scholarships to (L-R) Miss Kuniko Arashiro, Keisho Fukuhara, Kazuo Oshiro, Tetsuhiko Taira, Yukio Matsubara, Kunio Takaesu, and Keiji Makabe, all of the institute. Others pictured are (L-R): Robert W.
