Washington - Twelve trade union leaders from the Ryukyus are feted at a luncheon given by officials of the American Federation of Labor Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO).
The group was welcomed to the United States by Michael Ross, director of the Department of International Affairs, AFL-CIO.
Members of the group are: Takashi Komesu, chairman, executive committee, Okinawa Stevedoring and Forwarding Company Labor Union; Keiyu Sunagawa, director of organization, All Okinawa Transportation Union; Shunei Hamahata, chairman, executive committee, Ryukyu Kaiun (RKK) Company Labor Union; Kenichi Kinjo, chairman, executive committee, W.W. Taylor Labor Union; Takeji Akamine, chairman, GRI Labor Department Employees Labor Union; Gushin Nishihira, chairman, executive committee, Okinawa All Telecommunications Employees Labor Union; Katsuichi Arakaki, chief secretary, GRI Legislature Staff Employees Labor Union; Seian Taira, chairman, executive committee, GRI Public Services Department Employees Labor Union; Isamu Shimabuku, chairman, Naha City Office Employees Labor Union (No. 2); Kazuo Kawamitsu, chairman, executive committee, GRI Miyako District Employees Labor Union; Wasuke Hiyane, chairman, Ishigaki Shipbuilding and Engine Manufacturing Labor Union; and Chosuke Maeda, staff member of GRI Labor Department Policy Section.
On April 3, upon completion of their six-week course at St. John's College, Annapolis, Maryland, the team will begin a three-week tour of American industrial centers for a first-hand look at American labor unions in operation.
The trade union leaders' study in the United States is under joint auspices of the U.S. Departments of Defense and Labor.

アメリカ労働総同盟・産業別組合会議国際部のマイケル・ロス部長が訪米を歓迎した。
団員は以下の通り。沖縄港湾荷役労組の米須隆実行委員長、全沖運輸労組の砂川恵裕組織局長、琉球海運労組の浜端春栄実行委員長、W.W.テイラー労組の金城賢一実行委員長、琉球政府労働局労組の赤嶺武次委員長、沖縄全通信労組の西平賀親実行委員長、琉球政府立法院労組の新垣勝市書記長、琉球政府工務交通局労組の平良清安実行委員長、那覇市役所労組（第2号）島袋勇委員長、宮古地方庁労組の川満和男委員長、石垣造船造機労組の比屋根松助委員長、及び琉球政府労働局政策課の真栄田朝助氏。
4月3日、メリーランド州アナポリスのセント・ジョンズ・カレッジでの6週間の研修を終えた一行は、3週間のアメリカ産業センター視察を皮切りに、アメリカの労働組合の実態を知ることになる。
米国での労働組合指導者の研修は、米国防総省と労働省の共同支援の下で行われる。
アメリカ労働総同盟・産業別組合会議国際部のマイケル・ロス部長（立席）は、琉球の労働組合指導者の訪米を歓迎する。
ロス氏は同団体に対し、米国の組合幹部が質問に答えることに熱心だと語った。
