Some eighty students of the American Kubasaki Nine High School, Okinawa translated their classroom studies on ecology into practical application on the beaches of Onna-Son, northwestern Okinawa, with the hearty cooperation of Son Mayor Kotoku Toyama and Assembly Chairman Seiichi Kohagura on May 20. The students, under the supervision of their teacher, Miss Cathleen Fox, launched a two-pronged attack on the pileup of trash: a clean up of beaches coupled with recycling of useable trash. Lt. Col. Perry E. Peters, community relations officer, Public Affairs Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR), coordinated the project with the school, municipal officials and U.S. Marines from Camp Courtney. The Marines provided four trucks to transport the trash and USCAR, two buses to transport the students.

久場崎米人高校生が恩納村海岸の清掃 － 久場崎米人高校の生徒80人が5月20日、当山幸徳村長及び古波蔵清一村会議長の協力を得て、恩納村の谷茶及び富着海岸の清掃を行った。この計画は単にビーチの清掃をおこなうばかりではなく、収集した廃物を再び利用することによって学校で学んだ社会生態学を教室だけの学習だけでなく、実際の経験を通して生きた学問を行うという目的で同校のカスリーン・フォックス教諭の指導のもとに行われたものである。この計画は米国民政府広報局のペリー・E・ピーター中佐(地域社会親善担当官)が久場崎米国人高校、恩納村役所、そしてキャンプコートニーの米海兵隊間の連絡をとって実施されたものである。なお、海兵隊がチリ運搬用のトラック4台を提供し、米国民政府が生徒達の輸送のため2台のバスを提供した。
