High Commissioner Awards were presented to two first prize winners Toshio Matayoshi, Matsushima Junior High School; and Suwako Nagahama, Mawashi Junior High School, following the Fifth All-Ryukyu Junior High School Story Telling Contest held May 27 at the Naha Ryukyuan-American Cultural Center (NRACC). 16 students from junior high schools on Okinawa participated in the contest which was one of the many activities of Ryukyuan-American Friendship week, May 21-27. The objective of the contest was to motivate junior high school students to learn and speak better English. The contest committee was composed of representatives from the Okinawa Union of English Teachers Association, the Golden Gate Club and the NRACC.
【和訳】 英語ストーリー・コンテストの受賞者
5月27日、那覇琉米文化会館で開催された「第5回全沖縄中学校英語ストーリー・コンテスト」の結果、最優秀賞に輝いた松島中学校のマタヨシ・トシオさんと真和志中学校のナガハマ・スワコさんの2名に高等弁務官賞が授与された。このコンテストには沖縄県内の中学校から16名の生徒が参加し、5月21日から27日まで開催された琉球米親善週間の活動の一環として行われた。このコンテストの目的は、中学生の英語学習意欲を高め、より良い英語を話せるようにすることであった。コンテスト実行委員会は、沖縄英語教師連盟、金門クラブ、那覇琉米文化会館の代表者で構成された。
