THIRD RYUKYUAN-AMERICAN High School Summer Seminar was held during the period Aug. 1-9 at Kubasaki Junior High School, Kitanakagusuku-Son, Okinawa attended by some 65 Ryukyuan and American students. The nine-day seminar, a people-to-people project of the Education Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR), was arranged to promote friendship and understanding between Ryukyuan and American high school students and to give them the opportunity to explore jointly the comparative cultures of the Ryukyu Islands and the United States through classroom studies, discussions, athletics and recreation. The students heard lectures on the History of the Ryukyus, the United Nations, Japanese and American literature, Oriental arts, communication, government, and international agriculture, by experts in their fields, after which there were discussions and exchanges of ideas. There were lessons in English conversation for Ryukyuan students and Japanese conversation for American students, and sports and dramatic presentations. The seminar was arranged through the combined administrative resources and financial cooperation of USCAR; the Government of the Ryukyu Islands; the U.S. Army, the Ryukyu Islands (USARYIS); the 313th Air Division of the U.S. Air Force, the USCAR Women's Club, and the Ft. Buckner, Naha Air Base, Kadena Air Base and Transportation officer's wives clubs. Forty Ryukyuan students attended the seminar from schools in all parts of Okinawa:Hentona, Hokuzan, Nago, Ginoza, Maehara, Yomitan, Futenma, Koza, Ishikawa, Urasoe, Shuri, Naha, Chubu Technical, Okinawa Technical, Chubu Agricultural, Southern Agricultural, Naha Commercial, Chubu Commercial, Okinawa, Commercial Institute, and Chinen. 25 American students were all from Kubasaki Senior High School.

琉米高校生約60名が集まって北中城村にある久場崎米国人中学校で8月1日から9日まで琉米高校夏季セミナーが催された。9日間にわたるセミナーは琉球列島米国民政府教育部による親善事業の一つである。つまり、琉米高校生間の親善と理解を増進させ、教室での授業、体育、レクレーションを通じて琉米のそれぞれの文化をお互いに研究する機会を与えるものである。琉球歴史、国連、日米文学、東洋美術、コミュニケーション、政治、国際的な農業についてそれぞれ専門家から講義を受け、その後討議、意見交換が行われた。米国人学生には日本語、沖縄出身の学生には英語のレッスンが行われ、また、スポーツ、娯楽行事が行われた。このセミナーは琉球列島米国民政府、琉球政府、在沖米軍司令部、米空軍第313師団、米民政府婦人クラブ、ホート・バクナー、那覇航空隊、嘉手納航空隊及び輸送部隊将校夫人の各クラブの財政援助で催された。辺士名、北山、名護、前原、読谷、普天間、コザ、石川、浦添、首里、那覇、中部工業、沖縄工業、中部農林、南部農林、那覇商業、中部商業、沖縄、知念の各高校、商業実務専門学校の生徒40名、久場崎米人高校の生徒25名が参加した。
