CINCINNATI SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA is scheduled to present concerts for the Ryukyuan and American public on Okinawa September 22, 23, and 24 at Stilwell Fieldhouse, Sukiran. The famous 100-member orchestra, under the direction of Max Rudolf, former music conductor of New York City's Metropolitan Opera, is currently on an around the-world tour under the auspices of the U.S. State Department's Office of Cultural Presentations. The Okinawa concert visit will be sponsored locally by the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands and Headquarters, U.S. Army Ryukyu Islands. Accompanying the orchestra on its tour is pianist Lorin Hollander, a 10-year veteran of the concert stage at the age of 22. The orchestra is scheduled to go on to Japan and Korea after presenting three concerts on Okinawa.

Conducting the famous 100-member symphony orchestra Cincinnati, Ohio, is Max Rudolf, who became its music director in 1958 after 13 years as conductor and artistic administrator of the world-renowned Metropolitan Opera in New York City. Accompanying the orchestra as soloist is pianist Lorin Hollander, a 10-year veteran of the concert stage at the age of 22. The orchestra is currently on an around-the-world tour, and is scheduled to visit sixteen countries before coming to Okinawa and continuing on to Japan and Korea.
Brief History of The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra -- The Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra is the fifth oldest orchestra in the United States and the first to travel around the world for the U.S. State Department's Office of Cultural Presentations. The Orchestra was founded in 1895, with Frank Van der Stucken as Music Director. A 48-man ensemble gave nine concerts that season. Today the 93-member Cincinnati Symphony, Orchestra under Max Rudolf plays more than 200 concerts a season. Its subscription concerts are tape-recorded for broadcast on the National Educational Radio Network, and its Decca Gold Label recordings reach additional thousands. Van der Stucken and each of his successors-Leopold Stokowski, Ernst Kunwald, Eugene Ysaye, Fritz Reiner, Eugene Goossens, Thor Johnson, and Max Rudolf--has contributed greatly to Cincinnati's musical life while strengthening the city's tradition of great conductors. Max Rudolf, the present Music Director, assumed command in 1958 after 13 years as conductor and artistic administrator of the Metropolitan Opera. Rudolf brought to Cincinnati a wealth of experience aa symphony and opera conductor acquired in Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Italy and his native Germany before coming to the United States in 1940. Since coming to Cincinnati, Rudolf has twice increased the size of the Orchestra; its present strength is 93 members. A Rockefeller Foundation grant for a yearly Exposition of Contemporary American Music, a unique program of in-school concerts, a contract with Decca Records, and the around-the-world tour are among major results of his direction. The home of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra is 3718-seat Music Hall, erected in 1878 and recognized as one of the world's most accoustically [acousitically?] perfect concert halls.
