AMERICAN FOOD FAIR - More than 1,500 visitors at the Naha (Okinawa) Ryukyuan American Cultural Center on Feb. 18 enjoyed an American Food Fair held to introduce traditional American dishes, and give the Ryukyuan people a better understanding of American culinary arts. The food fair was a joint venture
of the Okinawa Women's Advisory Council to the Cultural Center, together with a number of American ladies residing on Okinawa, and the local UNESCO Supporters Association. All dishes were prepared from locally-available materials and a Japanese-language booklet containing recipes was distributed. "An occasion like this food fair will give many Okinawan wives and mothers a first-hand opportunity to observe the American way of cooking and serving foods and even a chance to taste some of the dishes which we normally do not have access to," Mrs. Kimiyo Onaga, chairman of the council and professor of home economics at the University of the Ryukyus, said. The food fair was the first of its kind to be held in Naha.

アメリカ料理展
伝統的なアメリカの料理法を紹介し、琉球住民にアメリカ料理について更に理解を深めてもらうために那覇琉米文化会館で2月18日催されたアメリカ料理展を1,500人余の人達が参観した。この料理展は那覇琉米文化会館婦人協議会、在沖米婦人有志、並びに沖縄ユネスコ婦人部の後援で催された。全ての料理は地元で入手出来る材料を使って準備されたもので、日本語版の調理法パンフレットも配布された。「このような料理展は、沖縄の主婦にアメリカの料理法をじかに学ぶ機会を与えるばかりでなく、普通、味わう事の出来ないアメリカ料理を味わう事が出来てまことに結構な事である」と同協議会々長及び琉球大学家政学課教授の翁長君代女史は語った。
