WELCOME TO OKINAWA -- Admiral Edwin J. Roland (L), commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, and Rear Admiral Christopher C. The Coast Guard officials arrived for a two-day visit during which Admiral Roland is to commission a $2,500,000 new LORAN (long-range aid to navigation) radio station in Gesashi, Higashi Son, northeastern Okinawa, part of the Coast Guard's LORAN network of stations in the Pacific. The Coast Guard's functions for the United States include providing navigational aids to maritime commerce and to trans-oceanic air commerce; saving and protecting life and property, maritime law enforcement, promoting the efficiency and safety of the American merchant marine and readiness for military operations.
