UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS BRASS ENSEMBLE'S FINAL CONCERT on Okinawa was heard by an enthusiastic capacity audience of 2,000 in the University of the Ryukyus Gymnasium Friday night, Feb. 21. Photo shows part of the main floor audience. The ensemble's first concert a week ago also was before a capacity audience in the same hall. The visiting Kansas musicians have performed before full houses at the Koza City Piccadilly Theater, the Ishikawa City Hall auditorium, the Nago Daini Toei Theater -- theaters or halls located in all major populated areas of Okinawa. The ensemble has also presented charity performances at a Ryukyuan orphanage and a blind school, and held brass band seminars for Ryukyuan school children and university students.
The University of Kansas Brass Ensemble's arrival at the Naha Civil Air Terminal in Okinawa on Feb. 14 for a ten-day musical goodwill visit opened a busy itinerary of visits to six countries and areas for the outstanding 18-student musical organization under the American cultural presentations program of the United States Department of State. The ensemble's itinerary follows: Okinawa, Feb. 14 to 24; Colombo, Ceylon, Feb. 26 to Mar. 12; South Vietnam, Mar. 15 to 22; Malaysia, Mar. 24 to Apr. 6; Indonesia, Apr. 8 to 26; and Australia, Apr. 28 to May 15. The ensemble's performances and musical seminars on Okinawa have been arranged by the Ryukyu Zone of Lions International. All proceeds of the concerts will be used by the six Lions Clubs on Okinawa for their welfare and educational programs in behalf of the Ryukyuan people. The ensemble is one of 13 American musical organizations that will travel abroad in 1964 under the State Department's cultural presentations program. ≪カンサス大学ブラス・アンサンブルの一行は沖縄で10日の親善演奏を行うため2月14日那覇民間空港ターミナルに到着したが、これは米国務省の米国文化提供計画に基づくもので一行18人の優秀な学生を音楽家が6つの国、或は地域を訪問する多忙な日程の第一歩である。アンサンブルの日程は次の通りとなっている。沖縄2月14日～24日、セイロンのコロンボ2月26日～3月12日、南ベトナム3月15日～22日。マレーシヤ3月24日～4月6日、インドネシヤ4月8日～26日。オーストラリア4月28日～5月15日。沖縄に於けるアンサンブルによる演奏と音楽研究会は国際ライオンズクラブ沖縄支部がおぜん立てをした。コンサートからの収益は全て沖縄の6つのライオンズクラブによって琉球住民のための福祉及び教育的計画のために用いられることになっている。カンサス大学ブラス・アンサンブルは米国務省の文化提供計画に基づいて1964年海外に派遣される13の米国の音楽団体の一つである。≫
