ONE OF THE FIRST of the 146,000 Ryukyuan children to receive Salk vaccine anti-polio immunizations watches with interest as Naha Health Center Doctor Shogen Sunakawa injects one cubic centimeter (1 cc) utilizing the painless jet inoculator. Another interested spectator was the Chief Executive of the Government of the Ryukyu Islands, Mr. Seisaku Ota (second from left). At far left is Naha Health Center Chief Doctor Shinko Kise. Deeply impressed with the anti-polio program, Chief Executive Ota urged "all parents who have children from the age of one month through five years to make sure all such children receive all three inoculations."

【和訳】ポリオ予防接種
那覇保健所のスナカワ・ゲンショウ医師が痛みのないジェット接種器で1立方センチ（1cc）を注入するのを興味深げに見る子ども。ソークワクチンによるポリオ予防接種を受け琉球児童14万6000人のうちの最初の一人で、大田政作琉球政府行政主席（左から2人目）もじっと見入っていた。左端は那覇保健所所長の喜瀬真功博士。大田主席は、ポリオ撲滅プログラムに深く感銘し、「生後1カ月から5歳までの子どもがいる親たち全員へ、子どもが全3回の予防接種を受けるように」と呼びかけた。
