ISAHAMA SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT, the second such major treatment facility on Okinawa, was formally dedicated on July 6 to service more than 200,000 persons living in the area between Yomitan, Koza, and Urasoe. The plant was designed by the U.S. Amy Engineer District, Okinawa and constructed under its supervision at a total cost of about $2 million provided by the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR). Civil Administrator Robert A. Fearey, in a statement read at the ceremony, said :,The basic purpose of sewage treatment is of course to protect public health. Beyond that, as the world is coming more and more to realize, such systems are essential to the control of environmental pollution.” The plant, which is located on 12 acres of reclaimed land (15,000 tsubos) west of Isahama and south of the U.S. Army Hamby Airfield, will provide primary sewage treatment for waterborne sewage and night soil. 【和訳】 マスターキャプション
