FIRST RYUKYUAN-AMERICAN SOAP BOX DERBY HELD AT KOZA --The first annual Ryukyuan-American soap box derby was held on Oct 1 on the road between Nakanomachi and Goya in Koza City, Central Okinawa. The event which is designed to deepen Ryukyuan-American friendship attracted a crowed of more than 10,000, including U.S. High Commissioner, Lieut. General Donald P. Booth, and Mrs. Booth, and Government of the Ryukyus Chief Executive Seisaku Ota and Mrs. Ota. "Our Ryukyuan and American youths are enjoying good, health sport together, that they are meeting in friendly competition, and that through this experience they will make friendship which will continue through the years". Gen. Booth said in his address. About 90 Ryukyuan and American boys participated in the derby.
【和訳】コザで開催された第1回琉米ソープボックス（石鹸箱）ダービー
コザで開催された第1回琉米ソープボックス（石鹸箱）ダービー - 10月1日に沖縄中部コザ市の中の町から胡屋に至る道路で、第1回琉米ソープボックスダービーが開催された。このイベントは琉米親善を深めることが目的で、会場には米国民政府高等弁務官ドナルド・P・ブース中将とブース夫人、琉球政府大田政作行政主席と夫人を含む1万人以上が集まった。開会のあいさつでブース中将は「琉球とアメリカの若者たちが健全なスポーツを共に楽しみ、親善競技を通じて出会い、この経験を通して築かれた友情が末長く続いていくことを願う」と述べた。ダービーには約90名の琉球とアメリカ人の少年が参加した。
