The University of Kansas Brass Ensemble will tour the Far East from February to May, and will make Okinawa its first stop, from Feb. 14 to 24, under auspices of the U.S. Department of State Cultural Presentations Program. The Ensemble (which is basically an enlarged orchestral brass section of trumpets, trombones, and French horns) was formed as a result of student interest and talent developed in a course in brass ensemble which was taught by director Kenneth Bloomquist after he joined the University faculty in 1958. The Brass Ensemble annually tours schools and communities in the United States, and it performs frequently for national meetings of music educators.
