KUBASAKI HIGH SCHOOL BAND AND CHORUS presented a friendship concert on Mey 26 at the Naha Ryukyuan-American Cultural Center in commemoration of Commodore Matthew C. Perry's arrival at the head of a U.S. Naval Squadron off Naha, Okinawa, May 26, 1853. The 50-piece band performed traditional American songs, including spirituals and Broadway musicals, as well as Japanese songs. The band was conducted by music teacher Daniel W. Mitchum. The 65-voice chorus ensemble, under the direction of Miss Patricia A. Works, presented a variety of songs including sacred, classical, spirituals, madrigals, popular and from musicals. This was the fourth in a series of cultural exchange performances by American and Ryukyuan students throughout the Ryukyus. The Kubasaki groups presented three concerts on Miyako, May 15 and 16. ≪クバサキ米人中校バンド及び合唱団は1853年5月26日のペルリー提督の沖縄訪問を記念して同日那覇琉米文化会館で親善演奏会を催した。50名編成のバンドはダニエル W・ミッチェル教諭の指揮で～歌でロードウェイのミュジカル等の伝統的な米国の歌及び日本の曲を披露した。65名からなる合唱団はクラシック・～歌、マドリガル、ポピュラー、ミュジカル等をパトリシャ・A・ワークス教諭の指揮でバラェティにとんだ曲目を披露した。これは、琉米学生の文化交換公演の一環として全琉で催されているもので、このグループは今月の15、16日の両日宮古で3回公演を行った。≫
