TO PARTICIPATE FRIENDSHIP JUDO TOURNAMENT -- A Japanese youth judo team arrived at the Naha Civil Air Terminal on Aug. 20 to participate in a friendship tournament with American and Okinawan teams. The Japanese team, representing Nabari City, Mie Prefecture, mainland Japan, met teams from the U.S. Army, Ryukyu Islands (USARYIS) Youth Judo Club and the Okinawan Judo Association in a round-robin tournament at the Ryukyuan-American Cultural Center in Naha on Aug. 23. The seven-man team from the Nabari Youth Judo Club was invited by the USARYIS Special Services Youth Activities and its members were house guests of members of the USARYIS Youth Judo Club while on Okinawa. Prizes for the tournament and funds for incidental expenses were donated by the USCAR Women's Club. The visit returned a similar visit made to Nabari City last year by the American judo club. Members of the Nabari team -- All junior high school students -- were Toshio Yamada, Takemitsu Yoshimizu, Mitsuo Mizushima, Hiroshi Matsuzaki, Masayuki Kimura, Hiroshi Takegawa and Naoki Onishi, all junior High School Students. They were accompanied by team leader Yuzo Kikuyama and judo coaches Himeo Nakano, Kunio Morioka and Shozo Tochimura.

日本の少年柔道チームがアメリカと沖縄のチームとの親善大会に参加するため、8月20日那覇空港に到着した。このチームは日本の三重県名張市を代表し、8月23日に那覇の琉米文化会館で開催された総当たり戦で、琉球列島米陸軍少年柔道クラブおよび沖縄柔道協会のチームと対戦した。名張少年柔道クラブの7人の選手たちは琉球列島米陸軍のスペシャルサービス青少年活動の招きで来沖し、滞在中は琉球列島米陸軍少年柔道クラブのメンバーの家庭にホームステイした。大会の賞品および雑費の支援金は、USCAR婦人クラブによって提供された。今回の招待は、前年に米国柔道クラブが名張市を訪問した際の親善交流への返礼として行われた。名張チームのメンバーはいずれも中学生で、山田敏雄、吉住タケミツ、水島ミツオ、松坂ヒロシ、木村マサユキ、竹川ヒロシ、大西ナオキ。団長の菊山ユウゾウ、指導者の中野ヒメオ、森岡クニオ、栃村ショウゾウが同行した。
