ORIGINAL OIL PAINTING of Lt. Col. (Dr.) Gilberto S. Pesquera of Puerto Rico is the basis of the 1962 edition of the Ryukyus Anti-Tuberculosis Association's Christmas seals. The painting is the work of one of Okinawa's foremost artists, Kohya Oshiro. A former U.S. Army physician who was assigned to the Public Health and Welfare Department of the U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyu Islands during 1951-53, Dr. Pesquera is credited with inspiring the establish­ment of the Association through his "humanitarian interest and professional advice." He passed away on Feb. 26, 1960 and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
【和訳】1962年琉球クリスマス・シール 米国の軍医を称える
1962年の琉球結核予防協会のクリスマスシールは、プエルトリコ出身のギルバート・S・ペスケラ中佐（博士）のオリジナル油彩画で、沖縄を代表する画家の一人、大城晧也による作品。ペスケラ博士は1951年から1953年まで琉球諸島の米国民事行政の公衆衛生福祉部に配属された元米陸軍の医師であり、彼の「人道的関心と専門的助言」により、協会設立のきっかけを作ったと言われている。彼は1960年2月26日に亡くなり、ワシントンD.C.のアーリントン国立墓地に埋葬された。
