1958 TOUR OF JACK TEAGARDEN AND HIS SEXTET
Jack Teagarden is an outstanding figure in the history of jazz. From the beginning of his career he has had a technical facility for playing the trombone which few could equal and he was among the first to use the trombone as a solo instrument. Often a leader of his own band there has also been a tremendous demand for his services as a supporting musician to play and record with many or the great jazz groups. As a vocalist he has the same authentic phrasing that is so notably expressed in his trombone playing. (L) 7-9 Trombone in hand, Jack Teagarden is seen with "Ruby" Braff left whose trumpet style successfully combines traditional with a modernist approach. In the center is a visitor from overseas, Harold Pendleton, President of the National Jazz Federation of England. (R) 4-9 Jack Teagarden with Willis Conover. From Monday through Friday of every week, Conover is Voice of America's host for the two hour program of American popular music and jazz, "Music, USA."
