MESSIAH SOLOIST -- CAPT. ROBERT VAN WAGENEN will sing the bass solo role in this year's Messiah concerts. Capt. Van Wagenen was trained by Dr. William Herman, a voice teacher of the Metropolitan Opera of New York City, for five years. He was also trained by Mme. Liszt, great-grandniece of Franz Liszt, in Paris from 1950 to 1952. Capt. Van Wagenen was the tenor soloist in the Messiah concerts in 1962.
More than 100 singers from six international musical organizations, and top soloists and accompanists, are new ready for one of the biggest Messiah concerts ever performed on Okinawa. The famous oratorio, the Messiah, composed by Handel, will be performed by singers of a joint Protestant-Catholic church choir from Naha Air Base, the Okinawa Mormon Choir, Sukiran Army Chapel, the Naha Philharmonic Chorus, the Ishikawa Philharmonic Chorus and the Okinawa Chorus. Concerts will be performed at the Naha Air Base Chapel on Dec. 12 and 13, at the Naha Commercial High School Gymnasium on Dec. 16 and at the Army's Sukiran Theater on Dec. 18. Each concert will start at 7:30 p.m.
【和訳】メサイア・ソリスト - 今年のメサイア・コンサートで、バスの独唱を務めるロバート・ヴァン・ワーゲネン大尉。大尉はニューヨーク市のメトロポリタン・オペラの声楽教師ウィリアム・ハーマン博士に5年間師事し、1950年から1952年までパリでフランツ・リストの姪孫にあたるリスト夫人に師事した。1962年のメサイア・コンサートではテノール・ソリストを務めた。
沖縄で最大のメサイアコンサートの一つ、6つの国際音楽団体から100人以上の歌い手とトップの独唱者と≪伴奏者が参加して行われる今年のメサイア演奏会は準備万端ととのい12日の初日を待つばかりとなっている。ヘンデル作曲の有名なオラトリオ「メサイア」（救世主）を合唱するのは那覇空軍基地チャペル、プロテスタント、カトリック合同聖歌隊、沖縄モルモン聖歌隊、ズケランチャペル聖歌隊、那ハ混声合唱団、石川混声合唱団、沖縄コールの六団体で演奏会は12日と13日那覇空軍基地チャペル、16日那ハ商業高校体育館、18日ズケラン陸軍劇場でそれぞれ催される。尚、開演はいづれも午后7時半からである。≫
