SCIENCE YOUTH DAY -- Civil Administrator Robert A. Fearey (seated) tries a phonevision at a science exhibition at the Naha City Auditorium, part of the 10th annual Science Youth Day program. With him are Jinsuke Okuda (L), president, and Seikichi Iha, of the Ryukyu Electric Power Corporation (REPC). The program on Okinawa sponsored by the REPC in cooperation with the Society of American Military Engineers, Okinawa Industrial Federation and the Govern­ment of the Ryukyu Islands' Education Department was held on Feb. 12. Science Youth Day commemorates the birthday of the great American inventor, Thomas A. Edison, Feb. 11, 1847, and is observed annually world-wide under the auspices of the Thomas Alva Edison Foundation as an international education program to encourage youth to become interested in science and engineering.
【和訳】青年科学の日 科学展 市民会館にて
第10回青年科学の日のプログラムの一環として那覇市民会館で開催された科学展で、テレビ電話を体験するロバート・A・フィアリー民政官（座っている）。隣は琉球電力公社の奥田甚助総裁（左）とイハ・セイキチ。2月12日に沖縄で開催されたプログラムは琉球電力公社が主催し、米軍技術者協会、沖縄工業連合会、琉球政府文教局の協力を得て行われた。青少年科学の日は米国の偉大な発明家トーマス・A・エジソンの誕生日の1847年2月11日を記念するもので、トーマス・アルバ・エジソン財団の後援で青少年が科学や工学に興味を持つよう促す国際教育プログラムとして、毎年世界的に開催されている。
