SCIENCE YOUTH DAY -- Roy E. Peffley (R), superintendent, Kin Power Plant of the Ryukyu Electric Power Corporation (REPC), briefs Ryukyuan and American high school students participating in the eighth annual Science Youth Day program on the plant operation. The program on Okinawa sponsored by the REPC in cooperation with the Society of American Military Engineers, Okinawa Industrial Federation and the Government of the Ryukyu Islands was held 14-15 Feb. Science Youth Day commemorates the birthday of the great American inventor, Thomas A. Edison, and is observed annually world-wide under the auspices of the Thomas Alva Edison Foundation as an international educational program to encourge [encourage?] youth to become interested in science and engineering.
【和訳】青少年科学の日 - 第8回青少年科学の日に参加した琉球と米国人の高校生たちに発電所の運転について説明する琉球電力公社金武発電所のロイ・E・ペフリー所長（右）。このプログラムは琉球電力公社が米軍技術者協会、沖縄産業連盟および琉球政府の協力を得て主催したもので、2月14日から15日にかけて開催された。青少年科学の日は偉大なアメリカの発明家トーマス・A・エジソンの誕生日を記念し、トーマス・アルバ・エジソン財団の後援で青少年に科学と工学への関心を促すことを目的として、毎年世界各地で行われる国際教育プログラム。
